I know at one time or another we have all misplaced our car keys or wallet and embarked on an energetic search and rescue mission. Sometimes it ended with a successful recovery and other times perhaps new keys had to be made or credit cards had to be cancelled.
Searching is something very common in our lives. We search for the right job, the perfect college, a soulmate, satisfaction in life and sometimes even the perfect slice of pizza if you’ve ever been to NYC. The Bible talks about a different kind of energetic search in the 2nd chapter of Proverbs. The search for wisdom. It might sound like something out of "Lord of the Rings" or "The Matrix" so let me explain it a little more.
Wisdom is gained when we take something we learn and apply it to our lives. If you know the stove is hot, not sticking your bare hand in it is wise so you don't burn yourself. Okay, I’ll admit that’s an easy one but how about something a little more difficult like when knowing to use discretion. I bet you can pull up your Facebook account or you pick the social media app and you can quickly find a post, tweet or image by someone where discretion wasn’t used.
In Proverbs 2: 3-6 we learn that “Wisdom comes in two ways: It is both a God-given gift and also the result of an energetic search. Wisdom’s starting point is God and his revealed Word, the source of “knowledge and understanding.”” The question we should be asking ourselves is are we spending our time and energy searching to know Jesus better and love Him more or are we simply looking for something that is going to provide us with a temporary satisfaction?
“If you seek it like silver and search for it like hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and discover the knowledge of God.
(Proverbs 2: 4-5)
Have a great evening!
